Domenic Crump is one of just 50 young women worldwide selected for a camp sponsored by the BET Entertainment Network.
Domenic Crump’s father handed her a piece of paper.
He simply said,” This would be a great opportunity for you” and walked away.
The St. Catherine’s sophomore held the paper in her hand and glanced down at the text to see a headline that said “Black Girls Rock.”
“I had no idea what my father was suggesting,” Crump said. “Directly after, I curiously went online to see why exactly my dad thought this would be suitable for me.”
Her father was right.
Crump is one of just 50 young women worldwide selected for the
Black Girls Rock Queens Camp for Leadership and Excellence sponsored by the BET Entertainment Network.
Crump was chosen for her exceptional academic achievement, strong leadership qualities, cultural awareness and understanding of the importance of sisterhood and service. She will attend the two-week summer leadership intensive in Rhinebeck, NY.
“I intend to take what I learn from the various workshops and seminars to help advocate for other African-American females in my community, and even throughout the world,” Crump said. “I would love to take the knowledge and experiences to improve not only my community, but myself as well.”
