St. Catherine's Celebrates World Languages

Students, faculty and staff celebrated World Languages last week with a variety of activities in and out of the classrooms.
This week, the Department of World Languages celebrated World Languages Week at St. Catherine’s School in an effort to bring awareness to the vitality and importance of multilingualism in modern culture. Across campus, teachers focused on inclusive activities and global lesson plans intended to bring together students, teachers, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds, cultures and linguistic traditions. 
 
Highlights of the week:
  • World Languages Chapels held in each division
  • Ambassador Omar Faye representing the Republic of The Gambia met with sixth graders
  • International welcome signs placed around campus
  • A JK-12 “We are connected" language chains displayed throughout the hallways
  • International dining menu showcased daily
  • Signs on each teacher's door showing the language(s) he/she speaks or has studied
  • A salsa instructor taught students during Middle and Upper School lunch
  • A Chinese dance instructor taught Lower School students Chinese folk dance
  • Heritage flags created by Lower School students
