Author Gives Insights on Raising Girls

Dr. Lisa Damour, author of numerous academic papers, chapters and books related to education and child development, visited St. Catherine's last week.
Parenting is not always easy. Last week, Dr. Lisa Damour visited St. Catherine’s to help enlighten the St. Catherine’s community on teaching and parenting girls.
Dr. Damour is the New York Times best-selling author of “Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood.” She met with faculty and staff before addressing the greater community that evening, proving sound, practical guidance for parents and teachers.
During her visit, Dr. Damour further explained what exactly is happening with girls during the teenage years and why it’s actually healthy, necessary and natural. She also helped prepare parents for what lies ahead and when they should actually worry and seek help.
Dr. Damour directs Laurel School’s Center for Research on Girls, writes a monthly column for the New York Times’ Well Family online report, serves as a regular contributor to CBS News, maintains a private psychotherapy practice, consults and speaks internationally, and is a Senior Advisor to the Schubert Center for Child Studies at Case Western Reserve University. And, she’s a mother of two daughters.
Leading up to Dr. Damour’s visit, the Middle School hosted a book club for parents to discuss the book’s contents.
