St. Catherine’s Robotics started the school year with success as two of the teams already advanced to state competition. St. Catherine’s boasts all-girl robotics teams in all three divisions.
The two teams made up of fourth and fifth graders — Super Hero Saints and Play it Again Saints — both won their respective competitions earlier this month to advance to state competition in December.
Super Hero Saints competed in the FIRST Lego League Regional Tournament at Bird High School on November 14, finishing second place in Robot Performance for Division I and bringing home the Champion’s Award for Division I for best overall team in all areas of the competition.
Team members are Olivia DeRosier, Holland Miller, Eliza Hopkins, Eva Green, Manya Suri, and Amelia Tefel.
Play It Again Saints, won the Champions Award in the FIRST Lego League Regional Tournament at Godwin High School on Nov. 21 to advance to state competition.
Team members are Kayton Buerlein, Lilly Caldwell, Aubrey Cuevas, Liza Fergusson, Adell Hudson, Mary Schroeder and Laura Grace Shield.
Both teams will compete at the FIRST Lego League VA/DC Champions' Tournament at James Madison University on December 5-6.
Middle School Robotics
Girls Innovating Robotic Lego Solutions (G.I.R.L.S.) had a strong showing at the First Lego League Richmond Regional Tournament held at Maggie Walker on Nov. 7. G.I.R.L.S. won the Project Award for Division II and were named alternates for the VA/DC Champions Tournament in December.
Team members are Anne Grayson Craig Ava Gardner, Taylor Draves, Bella Shealy, Catelin Smith and Amelia Urban.
On November 14, the Middle School robotics team T.A.R.D.I.S competed in the FIRST Lego League Regional competition at Bird High School. The girls earned the Core Values Award.
Their highest score on the robotic table was 327 points, setting a record for our Middle School teams. They placed fourth overall among a competitive group of 16 Division II teams.
Team members are Elizabeth Craig, Ava Dalton, Cannon Diradour, Eleanor Robb, Compton Sprinkle and Mayher Suri.
Upper School Robotics
Saint Servos, the Upper School Robotics team, will compete at the Arthur Ashe Center on December 5.
