Making Connections and Building a Bridge in Nepal

LS girls raised more than $10,000 to build a bridge in Nepal and send four girls to Kopila Valley School.
Almost 8,000 miles separate them. But with one simple click on a computer, four students at Kopila Valley School in Nepal were connected with the Lower School girls at St. Catherine’s.
The two groups Skyped on Monday morning during chapel. Last spring, LS girls raised more than $10,000 to help send those girls to school and to build a bridge between the two campuses.
Caroline Porter '06 spoke to the Lower School girls about the Kopila Valley School in Nepal, where she previously taught. She told the students about life in Nepal and revealed the name of the new bridge: The Giving Bridge.
First grader Stella McCormack presented a check for $100 to Porter for the Kopila Valley School. Stella raised the money from the sales of a Mermaid Coloring Book she created.
Porter also introduced a new project to the Lower School girls. More than 50 students live in the home at Kopila Valley, where temperatures can get very cold and the buildings are not well insulated. She challenged the girls to gather warm clothing that she can bring to the students at Kopila Valley in December.
