Upper School Student Creating Models for VMFA

Senior Colleen Gregory helped create the 3D models of the Forbidden City for VMFA exhibit.
While her fellow students were enjoying their summer, senior Colleen Gregory was building a city -- the Forbidden City.
Gregory spent her August printing out 3D scale models of the 1,400 buildings of the Forbidden City for VMFA’s current exhibit, “Forbidden City.”
“The buildings that I made are used to help create a visual model in the exhibit for patrons to be able to conceptualize the layout and scale of the imperial city,” Gregory said.
Two weeks after the internship ended, VMFA contacted Gregory to offer her a part time paid staff position for the duration of the exhibit. She works 15 hours a week in the atrium showcasing how the printers work, answering questions about the process/ exhibit and finishing off the last sets needed for the show.
