Students Receive Academic Honors
Senior Jocelyn Wickersham is a National Merit Semifinalist. Charlotte Cross, Olivia Reid and Erin Winchester named Commended Students.
The academics accolades are rolling in for St. Catherine’s students.
Senior Jocelyn Wickersham was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist.
About 1.4 million juniors entered the 2015 National Merit Scholarship program by taking the 2013 PSAT exam. The number of semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state's percentage of the national total of graduating senior. Wickersham is in the top one percent of all U.S. high school seniors who took the exam.
“I'm very honored to represent St. Catherine's as a National Merit Semifinalist this year,” Wickersham said. “I'm proud that my hard work has paid off in this way, and I'm grateful to all my teachers for preparing me so well. I'm excited to move forward in this competition over the next few months and continue to represent my school.”
She now enters into competition to be named a National Merit Finalist, which will be announced in February. Finalists are eligible to compete for scholarship money from a variety of colleges, universities, and corporations who participate in the scholarship program.
Three seniors qualified as National Merit Commended Students: Charlotte Cross, Olivia Reid and Erin Winchester. These students placed in the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students who took the 2013 PSAT exam. While there is no scholarship competition many colleges look favorably upon this recognition in their review processes.
