Oct. 6, 2011 update introducing new Head of School Dr. Terrie Hale ScheckelhoffDear St. Catherine’s Family,
This is an exciting time in the history of our School. Earlier today St. Catherine’s Board of Governors and the Trustees of the Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia (CSDV) unanimously accepted the nomination by your Search Committee of Dr. Terrie Hale Scheckelhoff to be the eleventh Head of School at St. Catherine’s. We have the honor and privilege of welcoming Terrie to our St. Catherine’s family.
An outstanding educator, administrator and leader, Terrie brings great insight, extensive research and first-hand experience in the education of girls. A national presenter and author, Terrie is passionate about working with faculty and staff to provide innovative and compelling educational experiences tailored for girls and young women. Terrie is in her 32nd year at Columbus (Ohio) School for Girls, currently serving as the Associate Head of School. She has worked in the classroom, admissions and administration. Her own education, including a B.S. in Elementary Education from Miami University (Ohio); an M.A. in Education Administration; an M.B.A. from Ohio State University; and a Ph.D. in Education Studies: Higher Education Leadership from the University of Nebraska, give her unparalleled expertise.
Terrie has a true passion for the education of girls and young women and has a history of building collaborative partnerships that benefit the girls in her school and beyond. She is a nationally recognized educator who possesses the vision to lead St. Catherine's into exciting new opportunities in education while being very mindful of our traditions and Core Values. I am confident in Terrie’s ability to lead with passion and to partner with our outstanding faculty and staff to continue providing our students with a premier education. Terrie will officially begin her new position on July 1, 2012. In the interim, she plans to visit campus as much as time permits.
This announcement culminates a yearlong process that engaged the St. Catherine’s community: students, parents, faculty, staff, alumnae, Board of Governors and other friends of the School. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the search with my deep gratitude to Katherine Whitney ’75, Search Committee Chair, and to every member of the Search Committee who spent countless hours over the past year to prepare and execute a thoughtful and inclusive process. Thank you for taking the time to attend the community sessions, host interviews, complete surveys and share your input with us. It was evident in every question, comment and suggestion that each of you possess genuine love and passion for our School. Your opinions were valued and taken to heart as the Search Committee made the decision to appoint Terrie to lead St. Catherine’s into the future.
I know that Terrie is very excited to meet you and connect with all of us in a meaningful way. We will certainly notify you in advance of her visits. The school website will be updated with additional information about Terrie, and you will receive a formal announcement in the mail soon.
Please join me in welcoming Terrie, her husband Kevin, and their two children Hannah and Hale to our St. Catherine’s family.
Sincerely yours,
George Jennison
Chair, Board of Governors
